Military Clinical Skill Assessment

The computer-administered Military Clinical Skill Assessment (MCSA) asks clinicians to respond to 14 video clips of a veteran interacting with a therapist to evaluate and ultimately enhance their military-relevant clinical practice skills. The tool scores responses in the domains of rapport building, appropriate communication and cultural awareness, unique issues relevant to military context, legal and ethical issues relevant to military-impacted clients, and culturally sensitive client assessment.

The USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families (CIR) measure is informed by the work of experts at the University of Toronto, as well as a standardized video used to assess Dutch medical students.

A validation study of the measure is underway.
