On Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, the USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families hosted a colloquium with Canadian Senator and retired Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire. Dallaire spoke about post-traumatic stress and the impact it can have beyond the individual, particularly on military families.

Dallaire commanded the United Nations forces in Rwanda, where he saw the country descend into chaos and genocide that claimed more than 800,000 lives. Since his retirement, he has become an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and treatment, especially in the military community.
