Deborah Hayes, USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work adjunct professor and co-chair of the Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative working group on families and children, discusses the work the collaborative has been able to do over the years to support military children and their families.
As a collaborative, we are truly a number of different organizations and individuals with the same goal, the same vision. And that is to support military-connected children, to identify them in different service areas so that we can be better able to provide for their needs.
Also to see where they are doing well and to acknowledge that. Too often we hear about military kids and families and what doesn’t work. I think really looking at the strength of the families and capitalizing on that, and supporting that is something that we all need to be about.
