Victims of military sexual assault experience unique circumstances and require specific treatment compared to civilian sexual trauma victims, according to a new University of Southern California study.

Researchers with the Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work examined the physical and psychological health, along with risk-taking behaviors, of men and women who had experienced sexual assault in the military.

Members of the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work participated in a military social work conference in Seoul, South Korea.

Hosted by Yonsei University, the focus of the Sept. 28-29 event was an expert-level discussion and exchange on the theme of violence and suicides among military forces.

Marilyn L. Flynn, dean of the school, gave the keynote address at the conference aimed at fostering collaboration in research and program development in the area of military social work, recognizing that USC is an international leader in this domain.

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at USC offers free care to veterans and families dealing with PTSD and other issues

The grand opening of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at USC celebrated a vision aimed at bringing the highest quality of mental health care to Los Angeles’ veterans and military families.

The downtown Los Angeles clinic was made possible by a $15.7 million grant from Cohen through his nonprofit Cohen Veterans Network. It offers free care to veterans and their families who are suffering from post-traumatic stress, mood disorders, substance abuse and other mental health issues.
