Deloitte makes impact on veterans entering LA workforce

With help from Deloitte’s strategy and operations expertise, members of the Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative fine-tuned veteran employment goals and strategies to help veterans transition into meaningful careers as part of Deloitte’s annual Impact Day earlier this month.

Veterans face unique challenges when seeking employment.

First, the LA workforce is changing. Industries such as health care, professional services and retail trade are growing at a rapid rate. Gifts help USC military center launch San Francisco veterans study

The Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families (CIR) has received funding to launch an indepth study assessing the needs of veterans in the Bay Area, particularly the military-to-civilian transition issues facing LGBT veterans.

Thanks to support from the Wells Fargo Foundation and Deloitte LLP, the San Francisco Veterans Study will poll 1,000 veterans on such topics as transition challenges, employment, finances, housing, health and access to services.

The San Francisco study is the fourth study CIR has conducted of a large urban military population, and the third in California.

Student veteran recognized by President Obama

It’s not every day the 44th president of the United States calls you out by name on the south lawn of the White House.

But on April 14, 15-year U.S. Army veteran and MSW@USC student Casey McEuin was bestowed that privilege as President Barack Obama honored him and other wounded veterans at the Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride kick-off at the White House.

McEuin, currently a veteran transition program specialist with Hire Heroes USA, served in the Army as an infantry platoon sergeant at Fort Carson, Colorado, with the 4th Infantry Division.

Military children enjoy event in their honor

On Sunday, April 17, the Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative held the third annual celebration of military-connected children at the Los Angeles Public Library.

April, Month of the Military Child brought children and families from across the area together to participate in numerous activities at the Central Library in downtown Los Angeles. The collaborative’s Families & Children working group, in partnership with Mindful Warrior Project, organized the event.

Chicagoland veteran study reveals larger national needs

Veterans across the nation are unprepared for life after military service, according to a new University of Southern California study.

A report by the Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families (CIR) at the USC School of Social Work of veterans living in and around Chicago found that a majority of veterans, primarily those serving after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, experienced transition challenges and needed time to figure out what to do after the military.
