The State of the American Veteran Studies

An extension of the studies first undertaken in Southern California, the San Francisco Veterans Study is a comprehensive assessment that will gauge the needs of veterans living in and around the Bay Area. The study will poll veterans on a range of issues, including adjustment to civilian life, housing, employment, physical and mental health, and barriers to care.

State of American Veteran (CHI) cover - April2016An extension of the studies first undertaken in Southern California, the Chicagoland Veterans Study is a comprehensive assessment gauging the needs of veterans living in and around Chicago. Working alongside Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work, the study polled nearly 1,300 veterans beginning in the summer 2015. The survey tackled a range of issues, including adjustment to civilian life, housing, employment, physical and mental health, and barriers to care.

Other CIR Research Studies

The Military Acceptance Project is one of the first Department of Defense-funded studies of active duty lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender service members’ behavioral health needs. The project is a joint effort between the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles.

CIR-VOA-coverCommissioned by the Volunteers of America (VOA), this study was part of an ongoing effort to better understand the needs of the nonprofit’s veteran clients and continuously improve veteran services. The purpose of this study was to explore the economic and employment challenges facing U.S. veterans today and identify best practices for helping impoverished veterans find and retain stable, living-wage jobs.

This Safety and Effectiveness Study (SES) evaluates Soar Technology, Inc.’s (Soar Tech) interactive role-playing game for service members’ families or loved ones.

Through the development of curriculum, opportunities to practice with virtual patients and other innovative training tools, this project aims to increase the number of mental health professionals trained to treat service members and their families.
